FOR THE CHILDREN

Out and About - Eden Project

River Valley not only welcomes families, but with its indoor pool, games room, playground and pet's corner, there's all sorts onsite to keep them amused come rain or shine. And when you step out to explore the local area, in addition to the beaches you will find all sorts of local attractions that offer children – and adults – a great day out.

Even the tiniest tots enjoy a visit to the Tortoise farm (Telephone: 01726 65670) just three miles from River Valley. If you don't mind a 40-minute drive, Newquay's Blue Reef Aquarium (01637 878134) is a hit with all ages – and you can always hire a board and take a plunge in the waves while you're in the UK's surfing capital.

If it's Cornwall's stunning landscapes you've come to explore, there are all sorts of places for the children to enjoy an outdoor adventure while you lap up the scenery. Cast off to sea on the ferry between Mevagissey and Fowey, explore the stone circles and wild terrain of Bodmin Moor or follow the nature trails through the Wheal Martyn Clay Museum (01726 850362).

Rain doesn't have to stop play – you don't have to go far to discover a plethora of all-weather attractions. The tropical biomes of the Eden Project (01726 811911) are a winner with the children, you can see how ice cream and fudge is made (and sample some of course!) at Roskilly's near Helston (01326 280479), zoom down the slides at Crealy Adventure Park near Wadebridge (01841 540276) or head to the huge indoor play area at Dairyland in Newquay (01872 510246).
